Last summer I was .. well – a new crazy paranoid mom! I was to afraid of bugs around my baby’s new, perfect sensitive skin! I refused to put sunscreen on him and I know how I react in the sun, and I could only imagine how much worse it would or could be for a new born. Needless to say, we kind of hermitted last summer. A lot of gym time every morning got us out early in the day, and then we would come home and have lunch, go for a one to two hour walk after that around our neighbourhood or a park somewhere, go visit friends, go to the mall for some AC if it was boiling hot out, we went to a baby gym once a week, we were super busy all of the time but managed to stay out of the heat and sun! Once he was about 6 months old, it got a bit cooler out and we could put more layers on him so I was less worried about the sun. Still a paranoid mom, but I was doing better!
Summer is here again and i have finally calmed down! Well – except for the sun, he is pretty white lol didn’t get much of the tan from his daddy, but now i just LOAD the sunscreen on and he is running around, playing, being a crazy baby boy! I love nothing more than being outdoors with him and WISH I didn’t have to return to work and miss out on so many days in the summer with him. On weekends, I try to get out hiking with him at least one of the days. Even when I come home from work, we go for a walk outside, our Saturday mornings are always started with a walk to Starbucks or the grocery store by our house, which turns into a LOT longer than just a quick walk there and back. Nolan LOVES being outside and tends to throw a little fit when I have to bring him in. I feel the same way ha-ha, but eventually – we do need to eat and go to sleep. We have had quite a bit of fun outdoors, hiking, bringing him to my soccer games, my softball games where he plays with other peoples kids, anything and everything we can do outside – we do it!
Some of our hikes so far have been to Elbow Falls, a few times, Silverton Falls, Lake Louise – Plain of Six Glaciers (my most proud hike with him so far! and will be in a separate post), Barrier lake, and I cant remember the others off the top of my head. I have also done a lot of my own or with friends this summer to get a bit more experience with what to expect and what to look for when searching for trails.
We have been for plenty of walks in the rain, and playing in the puddles. Its nice to carry him and just carry a big umbrella to make sure he is covered. The snow over the winter didn’t stop us either! It was so nice to bundle him up and push through the snow, or put him in a sled and pull him. This winter will be so much fun as well! Anything and everything we will tackle!
Although he is only getting heavier, my goal is to reach many summits with Nolan and I think we can do it! Every hike I do, I learn more and different ways to pack and carry things. I hope he always enjoys doing this with me and looks back one day and is happy with how we spent our time. I am excited to see where our adventures take us 🙂
Till the next one!
